Our final Artist Trio Series with Free Spirit Fabrics , this one featuring Joel Dewberry, goes out with a BANG today with the most fabric cuts EVER in a Great Giveaway. This Artist Trio was short, running just over the past four days, but oh-so sweet! Joel Dewberry has always been one of S4H's favorite fabric designers. We loved getting to know him during our interview and working with his latest Heirloom collection for our Thanksgiving Traditions projects. Our friends at Free Spirit sent a super generous selection of gorgeous Heirloom fabric for one lucky Sew4Home fan: TWENTY-NINE one yard cuts of the quilting cottons, TWELVE one-yard cuts of the amazing laminates, and Joel's FIVE Eclectic Modern sewing patterns. Wowee Zowee, Batman... this is a super prize. To enter, simply leave a short comment below about a fabric heirloom someone made and passed down to you or one you are creating now to become a favorite tradition.

Here at S4H, we have loved every Joel Dewberry collection that has come down the pike. His talent for mixing traditional and contemporary motifs, then infusing those concoctions with just the right color combinations, is spot-on time after time. If you haven't already read our interview with Joel, take a look; you'll enjoy learning about his design perspective. And, be sure to try out one or all of our three Thanksgiving Traditions projects from this week:

The last quilt Grannie Taylor made,5 inch purple squares sewed by hand, This quilt was made for me and my daughter to snuggle with and when my daughter moved out she took it with her. I have the last quilt my mom made before she passed I am hanging on to it but it too will pass along to my daughter.

We made a christening gown out of my Mom's wedding dress and pass it down from baby to baby. It was a wonderful way to keep her dress in the family and for all of us to enjoy it’s beautiful material!

so many items too choose from! but probably have to choose the crocheted white baby blanket that my grandmother made for my oldest daughter's christening. we used it for the other 2 children as well. i'm saving it and hoping that future grandchildren will use it at their christenings as well. this same grandmother also made a beautiful openwork crocheted tablecloth for the oldest granddaughter from each of her children. she also made my wedding garter and gorgeous cushions (for kneeling during the ceremony) with lots of hand pleating. i hope to pass these down as well. thanks so much for this awesome giveaway!

My mother made me a doll and on the dress added some lace that my great grandmother made and a doily that my grandmother made. I plan on adding something to the doll and passing it on to my daughter. Thanks for the feature on Joel Dewberry. I purchased some of his heirloom voile fabric and it is just lovely!

My favorite heirloom is a quilt that my great-grandmother made. Such perfect hand-stitching! My mother never quilted, but I have plans for making an heirloom-like quilt that my daughter will one day cherish and pass on to her children. I might have to make a few quilts -- the boys might get jealous, seeing as how they're already acting like a "Linus" dragging their lovey blankets around!

My grandma knitted a chevron afghan for every one of her grandchildren in the 70s and 80s. Fortunately, mine was done in a pallett of blues and still sits on my bed today!

At Christmas I like to take out the beautiful red and white antique quilt and the beautiful hand-embroidered Christmas doily my mother-in-law passed down to me.

What a world of possibilities! Maybe a quilt for my daughter. And I would love to try working with laminates also.

A terribly ugly, somewhat square quilt made from polyester fabrics from the 60's and 70's. My grandmother used to collect fabrics from the community to turn them into quilts for the elderly, disabled and disadvantaged during those decades. The one still with us is blue, pink and a hint of yellow that continues to remind us of mamaw.

My favorite would have to be the Christmas stockings that I made for each of our children for their first Christmas. I just love when its time to hang them on the mantle.

My grandmother was a professional seamstress, but in her free time she also enjoyed sewing. I'm so fortunate to own several beautiful quilts, with every piece handstitched. I have several embroidered pieces that she and my mother made, and a beautiful coverlet that she crocheted with tiny, ecru thread. I treasure every one!

My mom received a large doily from my great-grandmother. Several of the great-grandchildren have now displayed the doily somewhere at our weddings.

I have a 1/2 piece of a beautiful vintage cotton that came in a bunch of fabric I received after my husbands grandmother died. It is my absolute favorite piece of fabric in my stash. Every time I start a project, I pull it out, audition it and always end up putting it back. I don't have much of it and I want to use it in something really special. Nothing yet has seemed worthy. It has a creamy background with pink, magenta and gold berries on it....wait a minute...It might just go great with some of Joel's fabrics....may have just found a worthy project!!!smilies/wink.gif

2 years age my mom's best friend asked me to try to make something with a stack of quilt blocks that her mother had made some 75 years ago. i was honored that she trusted me to handle them. they were 15inch patchwork blocks, about 20 of them. i proceeded to square them up and then added sashing and constructed a quilt-top. a friend of mine long-arm quilted it. i added borders and binding and took it to "LISSIE" in the hospital and presented it to her. she showed it to everyone who would stop to look! the joy on her face to sit and hold that quilt that represented her mother's hand work and was made from scraps of clothing she and her family had worn was priceless. when she passed away, a neice called me and said LISSIE had wanted me to have the quilt. I was honored again and it now resides on the foot of my bed where i can enjoy looking at it every day.

I have a beautiful "family tree" quilt made by my great-grandmother and her sisters. Family member names are embroidered on pieces throughout the quilt. It's in a yellow and cream solid, and even though it's very old, has a modern appeal to it.

Our family fabric heirloom is a bedspread which was crocheted by my grandma when she was a young girl. It was a curtain in that time but now I put it on our bed.smilies/smiley.gif

My fabric heirloom is a quilt that my husband's great aunt crossed stitched and then my sister quilted for me. His great aunt was in her 90's when she crossed stitched it for me and she has long since passed so this quilt holds special memories when we use it.

Our family fabric heirloom tradition is definitely a baby blanket my mother sewed for my eldest sister. It has passed down to the two daughters of my middle sister, and now has come back to my eldest sister for her almost 5-month old little boy. The colors are beautiful bit both to use or a girl or I boy. I hope one day my son/daughter will be able to sleep beneath it!
