Monogrammed Travel Trio - The Zippered Pouch: Janome America

Wednesday, 25 January 2017 1:00

Little stuff? Zip it up! A zippered pouch is always handy, whether as part of a matched set as we’ve done here or on its own to hold whatever small necessities you need to carry. We offer a free pattern download that allows you to cut a perfect curve and gives you the needed markings for the darts at the bottom. These darts add a bit of extra fullness that allows the pouch to expand to hold more and larger items.

Monogrammed Travel Trio - The Tote: Janome America

Monday, 23 January 2017 1:00

Our trio of travel necessities can be made as a matched set or you can create each one individually. We combined the Janome Skyline S7 for sewing with the embroidery-only Janome Memory Craft 500E to add a stylish initial to each piece. Start off your set with this roomy, hold-everything tote. We chose two coordinating canvas prints by Sevenberry for Robert Kaufman Fabrics in tones of oatmeal and rose – a color combination that works year ‘round.

Monogrammed Oven Mitts: Embroidering with Aurifil & Janome

Monday, 02 January 2017 1:00

The classic oven mitt presents an excellent surface for embellishment. For our First Project of the New Year, we’ve chosen a Flourish Alphabet Monogram – one of the built-in designs on our favorite Janome embroidery-only model: the Memory Craft 500E. And, we’ve done this beautiful embroidery with three colors of Aurifil 50wt cotton thread. The result may just be the most stylish set of oven mitts ever! As a gift or for yourself, this is a fun project with a stunning result. We joked about embroidering a “L” on one hand and a “R” on the other — just in case you get your left and right confused when baking!

Cat’s Meow Appliqued Pillow: Janome America

Monday, 15 August 2016 1:00

Set this pretty kitty on your sofa to keep watch over the rest of your pillows. The bold silhouette with its sweet dimensional bow is truly the Cat’s Meow. Our original design was created to show off the amazing appliqué capabilities of the Janome machines. We used the Janome Skyline S7, but the same precision stitch quality is available on all their models, from the top-of-the-line sewing and embroidery powerhouses to the entry level compacts. We’re an exclusive Janome studio at Sew4Home, and it’s one of the top reasons our finished samples turn out so beautifully. Your sewing machine is the tool at the center of the process; it better have your back! That means a machine you can rely on to do what it needs to do easily and without any unnecessary frustration on your part. When you’re confident in your machine’s performance, it frees you to concentrate on your creativity.

Accessories We Love: Janome Ultra Glide Foot & Needle Plate

Thursday, 21 July 2016 1:00

Life can get a little sticky sometimes. In general, that statement covers a vast array of scenarios. But in the world of sewing, we’re usually talking about laminates, vinyls, faux leather, oil cloth, and the other sticky fabric substrates that look cool but can be challenging to sew. The surfaces of these specialty fabrics love to drag across your presser foot and/or needle plate, causing your stitching to bunch or break. Plus, with non-wovens, once you make a hole it’s there to stay. So the last thing you want are extra holes due to messed up seams. The Janome Ultra Glide Foot and its accompanying Needle Plate Set gives you the ability to sew through your sticky situations like a hot knife through butter.

In-The-Hoop Embroidered Coasters: Janome Memory Craft 500E

Wednesday, 20 January 2016 1:00

We started  working with the Janome MC500E when it debuted just last fall, and it's been a delight. This project is designed to show you an example of a popular trend: embroidery in-the-hoop. The technique is just as the name implies, the vast majority of the project, both sewing and embroidery, is done within the hoop. In this case it means that although the MC500E is an embroidery-only model, it can complete the entire project. We've given detailed steps below for completing these beautiful coasters on the MC500E, but even if you don't have this model (yet...), you'll find the in-the-hoop process intriguing. We used one of the MC500E built-in designs, using its flexible on-screen editing features to create the border.

Decorative Stitch Hot Pads: Janome Skyline S7

Wednesday, 16 December 2015 1:00

I know they say creativity is about learning to "color outside of the lines," but sometimes, the line is our friend. This happy pair of hot pads is all about the beauty of a perfect connection from point A to point B. We selected a wide stripe for the front, which we then highlighted with parallel rows of bright decorative stitching. The back has just the decorative stitching against a neutral background. We used our Janome Skyline S7 for precise and beautiful stitching row after row after row.

Mug Rug with Embroidery, Patchwork, and a Pocket: Janome Memory Craft 500E

Monday, 07 December 2015 1:00

A mug rug is like a mini placemat with just the right amount of room for the aforementioned mug along with a few little treats. The smaller size makes it great for tight spaces, like an end table or in your sewing room. We incorporated an extended panel with a pocket for a napkin. Use it with the napkin for an especially tidy mug rug or remove the napkin and simply take advantage of the extra real estate... perhaps for some additional little treats!
