Mother's Day

This week's Happy Mother's Day projects all featured beautiful ribbon accents generously provided by Lanae and her staff at The Ribbon Retreat + Fabric. To cap off the week, they also sent us 42 rolls of plain and printed grosgrain ribbon as a wonderful Great Giveaway. Yards and yards and yards (165 yards to be exact!) of embellishment creativity await one lucky winner drawn from our S4H Mail List.
I'm of the opinion you can never have too many kitchen towels. It's an extra bonus when they are so pretty they actually make you want to clean up! We started with plain white store-bought towels, then added fabric and ribbon strips to build a band of beauty along the bottom. Tie up three or more with a bow and a sweet handmade tag, and you have a bundle of lovely linens for Mom.
Give Mom a pillow duo that will add an instant splash of spring to her favorite sofa, chair or bed. Our side-by-side design sets off the the pretty Parisville prints with bold designer linen colors. And we love these double-ruffle ribbons from The Ribbon Retreat, which remind us a bit of lasagna. We used them as a lovely embellishment that not only ties into ruffly bow accents, it also ties the two pillows together into a perfect pair.
These sweet little sachets take such a tiny bit of fabric, you could easily make a basket of 14 of them from just a couple quarter yard cuts of fabric. Ours are filled with bath salts scented with essential oil. Fast, easy and economical all around. And, of course, they are also pretty as a picture... especially with the unique Moonstitch ribbon hangers. Is that the sweet smell of gift-giving success?!

But there's nothing simple about the result – it's a truly beautiful bag that Mom (or sis or auntie or grandma or....) will love.
You're late, you're late for a very important date! Stumped for a quick gift for Mother's Day? Our Tattered Flower headband saves the day. I made this in about 30 minutes. But, it looks like I slaved for hours over the intricate triptych design, button embellishment and chic frayed-edge flowers. If asked, you're welcome to use any of those big words to describe how hard you worked on this gift as well.
Mom's have stuff. Lots of stuff. It's a rule. Sometimes, we need to take our stuff from one place to another, in which case, we need a stuff-carrier... and we do not want to use a plastic baggie. This lovely pleated travel pouch is an elegant answer to a pressing need. It uses just tiny bits of fabric, so it's a great project to try out little fabric cuts or perhaps use up some scraps. Our design has an easy-to-insert top zipper, generous pleats on both sides and a luxurious satin charmeuse lining. I'm thinking... perhaps one for you AND one for Mom. I bet you have a bit o' stuff, too.
