Buckle up! But do it with more comfort and style with a super cute seat belt cover. Another great Scrapbusters! project, this easy wraparound cover is not only perfect for seat belts, it's also great for briefcase or suitcase straps. It even worked nicely to pad the handles of the recent heavy-duty Grocery Totes we made. Our design is reversible so you can make one side in cozy fleece for cold days and the other side in cool cotton for warm weather. Not only are seat belt covers an added comfort, they also help keep your shirt or jacket from becomming a wrinkly mess on long drives. These versatile straps would make a great gift for all the drivers your know –customize the fabric to match their moods.
Spring Flower Pins
As a little girl, I liked to watch my mother get dressed up to go someplace special. On the top shelf of her closet, she kept a round, paper-covered hatbox. Inside were a half dozen lovely millinery-quality flower pins, each carefully wrapped in tissue. The finishing touch was pinning a flower to her dress or the lapel of her jacket. My favorite was a big rose-colored peony flower made of woven fabric with several pale green, ribbon-wrapped stems.
Tomorrow is the first day of spring. Celebrate by wearing a flower on your jacket, in your hair, or pin one to your bag. Not only are they trendy, they brighten your day and help turn winter into spring.
ScrapBusters: Baby's Sleeping Door Hanger
Remember those "Baby on Board" placards that used to be so popular? They spawned an entire line of bizarre copycats; I remember seeing everything from "Mother-in-Law on Board" to "Alien on Board"! The original baby idea as a warning sign was a good one, and is similar to today's ScrapBusters project. When baby is finally asleep, gently shut the nursery door, then slip this sweet door hanger over the knob to warn the rest of your noisy family it's time to tip-toe because, "Baby's Sleeping!" This project is fast and easy to make and uses just a few tiny bits of fabric, batting and trim. It would make a wonderful shower gift.
Heather Jones' Wonky Block Modern Quilting Project
The world of Modern Quilting is a "wonky" world. If something is "wonky" it means angles, sides and points are not necessarily straight and true. For years, "wonky" was the worst thing your quilt could be. It meant all those carefully cut squares and triangles and strips were not precise. But like coloring outside the lines, this imperfection is what gives a modern quilt its free-form creativity. "Cut until it fits" is a mantra followed by many a modern quilter. One of our favorite modern quilters is Heather Jones, who was our guest yesterday with a tutorial on Straight Line Quilting. Today, Heather's back with a Guest Project from the wonky world: the wonky log cabin block. Take it away, Heather!
Kitty Catnip Toy
Just ONE seam is all the sewing required to make a Cattail Catnip Toy. Fill with catnip and tie into segments. Your kitty will lick it and pummel it with rapid-fire kicks of appreciation. Not every cat is into catnip, and kittens ignore it; but in a lifetime of living with cats, I've never had one who didn't enjoy catnip playtime. The trick is to limit use to about once a week to avoid desensitization. Our Cattails also make a great fundraiser for animal shelters. A volunteer can make a dozen in a couple hours, and it takes very little sewing skill.
ScrapBusters: Clean and Simple Clutch
It's time for another installment in one of our favorite series: ScrapBusters! This time, the scraps you need are a bit larger, but I'm bettin' you still have lots of fun fabrics from which to choose to create this cute clutch. We are normally very diligent about telling you exactly which fabrics we used for our samples, however, this time around, we found our pieces in what we fondly call our 'UFO' bin: Unidentified Fabric Options. My only direction for your choosing is to use a décor weight or better for both layers in order to get an appropriate crispness. And, a print for the outside with a coordinating solid for the inside is a classy combo. The finishing touch is a little bit of bling on the front as an accent over the magnetic clasp. Ours is a broken rhinestone earring, but a fancy button or rescued broach would also work well. You just need a couple open points on it to allow you to sew the bauble in place.
Cotton Candy Kitty Is the Purrrfect Valentine's Pal
Cotton Candy Kitty is asking so nicely, how could you say "no" to her Valentine's request? This is a fast and easy project... even if you've never tried a stuffed animal before. We found the Minky Double-Sided Cuddle Fleece from our friends at Minky Delight surprisingly easy to work with. It's very forgiving, and a third of a yard is enough to make three little kittens. I bet you know at least three folks who could use a Valentine's Day hug from a cute little kitty like this.
Valentine's Day Project-palooza

Perhaps I might still collect a few crumpled doilies festooned with candy hearts and felt-penned sentiments of love. Are there some sweethearts left on your Valentine's list? One of these Valentine's Day Classic Projects might be just the ticket. They're all fast and easy enough to finish by February 14th... as soon as you complete your paper mailbox!
Petite Purse in Maman & Nursery Basics From Cloud9 Organic
At just 5" square, our teeny tiny purse might seem like the perfect little girl accessory, and indeed it would be. However, the 2012 fashion runway trends are showing little purses like this on big girls as well. In fact, our 'big girl' model dubbed it the perfect size for a night on the town, just right to hold a bit of make up, cards and cash. We combined three soft peachy-pink prints from two of Cloud9 Fabric's newest Premium Organic Collections: Nursery Basics and Maman. The easy-to-use frame is just like the ones you'd find on a little coin purse.
Big Sister Dolly Quilt in Maman & Nursery Basics From Cloud9 Organic
One of my favorite "new baby traditions" is the practice of bringing the siblings of a new baby little gifts to also make them feel special. That is the idea behind our adorable Big Sister Dolly Quilt. We used the scraps from yesterday's Beautiful Baby Quilt to create a matching 14" x 18" blanket the perfect size for a doll bed. The center patchwork is made up of 2" x 2" squares, which were sized to be a perfect showcase for the pretty little motifs of our Cloud9 Maman fabric.
