Double Pocket Gift Sleeves: Getting Creative with Oly*Fun

Friday, 10 March 2017 1:00

Natural fabrics are amazing and beautiful. But sometimes… you need an option that has a few more “super powers” to help it perform in non-traditional situations. This is the first of a series of projects we’ve developed using Oly*Fun™ from Fairfield World. The fibers of this woven synthetic have been fused to create a flexible, multi-purpose material. It doesn’t fray, tear or fade. There’s no white core; it’s the same bright color on both sides. It’s even water repellant. You can sew it, glue it, staple it, pin it or tie it. (We’re wondering if it can leap tall buildings in a single bound!) Since there’s no need for hemming, we used it to make a set of very narrow, double-sided pockets. Clip them together as the perfect gift set for manicure or sewing tools.

ScrapBusters: Mini Waist Pack

Thursday, 09 March 2017 1:00

The "fanny pack" is back. It's showing up alongside other flashback fashions from the seventies and eighties at Forever 21, Old Navy, and H&M. Of course, we felt a slightly new spin was in order for this favorite on-the-go storage solution. Our Mini Waist Pack version has been jazzed up with cool colors and a contrasting zipper, and it's slimmed down for a sleek look and feel. We offer a pattern download so you can get the perfect bottom curve.

Sewing Machine Cover with Decorative Stitching Accents

Tuesday, 07 March 2017 1:00

A cover keeps your machine protected from dust and sun exposure when not in use, and a custom sewn cover can be a very pretty alternative to what may have come with your machine. Decorative stitching accents in multiple colors plus button embellishment adds a bit of flair to our design. Have fun with your fabric selections to best match your décor; we recommend coordinating two prints with one solid – a solid is the best background for the decorative stitching. Read on to see how we measured out Janome Skyline machine to determine our cuts. There's also a pattern download provided for the curved side panels. Your trusty machine works so hard for you, doesn't it deserve a brand new outfit?!

Ruffle Bunnies: Fun Appliqué Kitchen Towels

Monday, 06 March 2017 1:00

These kitchen towel Ruffle Bunnies are ready to hop-to-it and help with your dish drying. Download our free appliqué templates to make a set for yourself as well as all your friends. As you know, bunnies have many friends and relations, so they like to have lots of company. We used a Fat Quarter Shop Jolly Bar bundle to cut out our cute bunny trio. These 5” x 10” pre-cuts are a FQS exclusive and were the perfect size for all three designs. You’re going to love the unique way we came up with to create the double ruffle, which is finished on all sides and doesn’t leave a visible seam allowance. It’s like magic, you might say a bit like pulling a rabbit out of a hat… if you aren’t too tired of the bun-bun metaphor yet!

Our Fast Fridays projects are all about whipping up something wonderful in no time at all.

Coupon Clipper Organizer & Wallet

Thursday, 02 March 2017 1:00

I am a coupon clipper; I even keep the ones that spit out like some sort of crazy jackpot with my grocery receipt. They all end up in a kitchen drawer, which is usually where they are when I really need them. If I do manage to remember to bring them to the store, it's so hard to find the one I need, I often just give up. Our solution is this pretty Coupon Organizer & Wallet. It has seven pockets so you can sort coupons, frequent shopper punch cards, gift cards, and more into specific sections. Now they will be easy to find, and therefore, easy to use. Never pay full price again!

Round Patchwork Floor Cushion with Tufting

Tuesday, 28 February 2017 1:00

Floral on the floor! Who says tables and counters get to have all the fun when it comes to gorgeous bouquets of blooms. We used nine floral prints from Amy Butler's Violette collection for FreeSpirit Fabrics to create a beautiful patchwork floor cushion for your seat or feet, giving new meaning to "tiptoe through the tulips!" We offer pattern downloads for all the patchwork pieces so you don't have to blow a gasket trying to turn squares and rectangles into a perfect circle; we did all the math for you.

Canvas Weekender Duffle: Dritz Gunmetal Hardware

Monday, 27 February 2017 1:00

This super-stuffable duffle fills up with plenty of stuff then cinches down into a compact and easy-to-carry box shape. Dritz® hardware makes it all work! We added both carry handles as well as an adjustable shoulder strap. The strap can be completely detached, which makes the bag a good option for travel – no dangling strap to get caught on things. You’ve likely seen this classic style before. It reminded us of a vintage college sports duffle. Read on to see how we’ve demystified the steps to creating the zip-wrap-and-clip combo that gives the top of the duffle its signature silhouette.

It's fast and easy, plus we give you all the formulas you need to adapt the design to fit your unique window scapes.

Set of Three Nested Sewing Baskets with Vintage Accents

Monday, 20 February 2017 1:00

You can never have too many places to keep your stuff – especially your sewing stuff. All the bits and bobs needed for a project can easily get scattered, so having a set of baskets in a variety of sizes is a welcome way to organize it all. Of course, you aren’t required to use them for sewing supplies; they’d be just as handy as desk caddies, to organize items in the bathroom or nursery, or to tidy up that one part of the kitchen counter that always collects way too much random stuff.
