Maker’s Apron for Sewing, Crafting & More: Renaissance Ribbons Ribbon Packs

Monday, 06 February 2017 1:00

You are a Maker! You create beautiful things with your own two hands. The medium in which you work may be different: from flour and salt to flowers and soil to floral print fabric and seams; but your dedication to expressing yourself is the same. We’re excited to showcase our first project of 2017 for our dear friends at Renaissance Ribbons. Our Maker’s Apron is designed to hold whichever tools you use most in a lucky-thirteen set of pockets. And, the bib is detachable! The ribbon trim is designed in the perfect lengths to take advantage of Renaissance Ribbons’ awesome Sampler Packs. These are a wonderful (and very affordable) way to collect and experiment with a variety of your favorite ribbons.

Two rows of dimensional ribbons front and back give this sleek clutch its elegant style. These gorgeous Jacquard ribbons are the newest from Amy Butler, part of her Violette collection for Renaissance Ribbons. They accent the Violette fabric of the clutch for a 3-D blend of saturated color and design. It's a perfect eye-catching accessory to pair with everything from a little black dress on an uptown evening to dressed-up jeans for a weekend getaway.

Metallic Leather Tall Tote with Renaissance Ribbons

Monday, 26 January 2015 1:00

Tall, thin and elegant, this bag could be a runway model. Or maybe at least be carried by one of those long-legged beauties. Soft faux leather with a slight metallic sheen is the perfect background for the exquisitely woven, richly colored, simply beautiful jacquard ribbons. These are brand new selections by Bonnie Christine for Renaissance Ribbons. We went Bonnie-all-the-way, using a matching fabric from her Art Gallery collection for the lining. Our specific ribbon selection is what creates the bag's fashionable spirit, but there are many, many others from which to choose at Renaissance Ribbons

Dimensional Ribbon Embellishment Technique

Thursday, 22 January 2015 1:00

We love embellishing projects with gorgeous ribbons. One reason is that we have such amazing choices from our friends and sponsor, Renaissance Ribbons. Another is because ribbons inject wonderful color and texture. Third, they're very easy to work with. Since we use them often, we're always thinking about new and unique ways to apply them. Today's quick tip shows you how to use standard piping cord to make ribbon pop off the surface.

Vintage Coin Purses with Renaissance Ribbons

Monday, 22 December 2014 1:00

It starts flat, then folds up 1-2-3, and snaps front and back to create an adorable cone-shaped mini purse for coins and more. Project design credit goes to Tendance Ruban for re-inventing this lovely vintage design; our thanks to sponsor, Renaissance Ribbons for bringing it to our attention. We reverse-engineered the original sample to provide you with easy, step-by-step instructions and a downloadable pattern. For this multi-layer project with its origami fold, it's important everything stays flat. Our solution: the ribbons are stitched to the plain side of a layer of fusible interfacing. When the front and back are assembled and pressed, it activates the fusing and creates a tight, smooth bond. Stability is increased and layers are decreased.

Dog Collar & Leash Sets: Renaissance Ribbons

Monday, 01 December 2014 1:00

Take your pet walking in a winter wonderland in style this year! Beautiful ribbon, hardware, webbing, a couple of hours, and you can make your very own boutique-style dog collar and leash. This is such a fun and easy project, you'll be offering to make them for all your canine friends. Our thanks for Renaissance Ribbons for providing the ultra-stylish ribbon for both sets. It's a perfect holiday gift idea, especially with the cute embellishments we added to each. There's a slip-on bow tie for the dapper dog, and a set of poms and jingle bells for the more festive (and bouncy) pooch.

Ribbon & Fringe Bitty Boho Bags with Renaissance Ribbons

Friday, 17 October 2014 1:00

The seventies hippie style didn't go away, it just came back as "boho." Rich color, mixed-media, wonderful textures, and a loose, unstructured feel are hallmarks of "bohemian fashion." Today's little shoulder bags fit right in. The focal point is the stack of five gorgeous ribbons from Renaissance Ribbons. They provide the artistry and beautifully divide the silk dupioni of the top from the faux suede and fringe of the bottom. A ring of decorative stitching at the top of each bag finishes off the boho blend. Our selection of ribbons was built on Flora and Fauna themes for each bag. Our thanks to our creative friends at Renaissance Ribbons for sponsoring today's project and providing such exquisite embellishment inspiration for us all.

Airstream Toiletry Bag with Renaissance Ribbons

Monday, 25 August 2014 12:00

The curved design of this toiletries travel bag reminds us of the classic Airstream trailers. It's an efficient a size and shape to hold all your bath necessities. We were inspired by the adorable postage theme ribbons by Jessica Jones for Renaissance Ribbons. The classic blue, crisp white and vivid red of the ribbons are echoed in the turquoise canvas we chose for the bag's base and the scarlet piping that outlines the front and back. And the fun metallic dots of the top cotton are like shiny round postmarks. This bag is bold, bright and brimming with personality. We can just hear it saying, "Take me traveling!"

Guest Tutorial with Elaine Schmidt: Ribbon Petal Cockade

Wednesday, 09 July 2014 1:00

I am in awe of Elaine Schmidt. I secretly refer to her as "the ribbon whisperer" because I'm so amazed by what she can get ribbon to do. The best part is, she's always ready, willing and able to pass along her skills so the rest of us can tame our ribbon into beautiful trims, rosettes, sculptures, baubles and beads. We recently reviewed (and gave away a copy of) Elaine's latest book, How to Make 100 Ribbon Embellishments. Today, Elaine is back with us to share a tutorial from the book. We've used some beautiful Amy Butler ribbons from Renaissance Ribbons to make a ribbon petal cockade... the amazing design featured on the cover of her book!

Re-imagine & Renovate: Renaissance Ribbons' Metro Bag (and Giveaway)

Tuesday, 01 July 2014 1:00

THIS GREAT GIVEAWAY CLOSED 07/11/14. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED.

Our trendy Metro Bag debuted last fall, just in time for back-to-school. Originally created with "guy-friendly" color and design, our friends at Renaissance Ribbons changed things up a bit to create a more feminine feel. What's cool is how they stayed within the same fabric and ribbon collection, proving you don't have to go far to create an original spin.
