THIS CONTEST ENDED 12/15/11.  THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED!

Our final Artist Trio Series with Free Spirit Fabrics , this one featuring Joel Dewberry, goes out with a BANG today with the most fabric cuts EVER in a Great Giveaway. This Artist Trio was short, running just over the past four days, but oh-so sweet! Joel Dewberry has always been one of S4H's favorite fabric designers. We loved getting to know him during our interview and working with his latest Heirloom collection for our Thanksgiving Traditions projects. Our friends at Free Spirit sent a super generous selection of gorgeous Heirloom fabric for one lucky Sew4Home fan: TWENTY-NINE one yard cuts of the quilting cottons, TWELVE one-yard cuts of the amazing laminates, and Joel's FIVE Eclectic Modern sewing patterns. Wowee Zowee, Batman... this is a super prize. To enter, simply leave a short comment below about a fabric heirloom someone made and passed down to you or one you are creating now to become a favorite tradition.

Thanksgiving Traditions: Heirloom Placemats, Free Spirit Artist Trio #3

It's day four of our Joel Dewberry Artist Trio Series with Free Spirit Fabrics. Today, we present a set of mix-and-match placemats that are fussy cut to make full use of the striking motifs of Joel's Heirloom collection. For those of you new to sewing, 'fussy cutting' is not pitching a fit in the barber chair when one side of your bangs is longer than the other. Although that is perfectly justifiable behavior. To fussy cut in sewing is to select and cut out a specific motif from a printed fabric or center your pattern piece directly over a design within your fabric that you want to feature. This is what we did to perfectly center the beautiful designs on each of our coordinated yet distinctive placemats.

If you're already a pro, they're a fast and fun project; and this time of year, a perfect host & hostess gift to whip out in an afternoon before your evening festivities. We kick ours up a notch with beautiful decorative stitching all around the edge and a coordinating fabric napkin ring that "ties" together all the beautiful mix-and-match patterns. As part of our final 2011 Artist Trio Series with Free Spirit Fabrics, this project features more of the Classic Modern designs of Joel Dewberry's Heirloom Collection: traditional florals paired with contemporary graphic motifs.
