Products We Love: Quilt Sticks... Enter To Win A Set of 7!

Printer-friendly versionSend by emailPDF version

THIS GREAT GIVEAWAY CLOSED ON OCTOBER 10, 2012. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED.

Quilt Sticks are one of those products that when you see them, your first reaction is, "These are so great!" Then, your second reaction is, "Why didn't I think of that?!" If you do a lot of strip cutting, for quilting, binding, sashing and more, you'll love Quilt Sticks. These innovative measuring and cutting tools were brought to our attention by our friends at Moda, and they've been generous enough to provide us with an extra 7-piece set to give away!

Has this ever happened to you (it has to me!): you lose track or don't pay close enough attention to your ruler markings, and your 3" strips become 2¾" strips somewhere along the way! Using a solid template, like Quilt Sticks, means a perfect cut every time.

The top of Quilt Sticks have a smooth surface so fabric won't pull or snag against it. A special backing keeps them from slipping; we found them to be very easy to hold steady while cutting.

Quilt Sticks are cut on an industrial saw and so are accurate to 1/1000th of an inch. You can find color-coded widths in a wide variety of handy increments.

  • 1" to 1⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 2" to 2⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 3" to 3⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 4" to 4⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 5" to 5⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 6" to 6⅞" in ⅛" increments
  • 7" to 7⅞" in 1⅛" increments
  • 8"

We tested the 24" length, there are 36" lengths available as well. Quilt Sticks start at just $8.00 and are available online.

To use one, simply pick the strip size you need. We selected 2".

Place the appropriate Quilt Sticks template on top of your fabric and square up the edges.

Using a rotary cutter, cut your strip.

After each cut, line up the Quilt Sticks template to the edge, and cut again.

Move across the fabric, cutting a perfect width every time.

When complete, and while the fabric is still flat, you can easily rotate your Quilt Sticks template 90˚ and turn your perfect strips into perfect squares or rectangles.

There are three short Quilt Stitcks videos on YouTube, which show you basic sizing, basic cutting, and how to use the templates for squares and other shapes

Thanks to Moda Fabrics, we have a Set of Seven Quilt Sticks to give away to one lucky Sew4Home visitor. The set includes the following widths: 1½", 2", 2½", 3", 3½", 4" and 5". All are 24" in length.

I went to their web site and watched the video of using these strips.  I was impressed that they really did not slide around while she was cutting the 3 double layers of fabric.  I would like to try these out.  Ruler slippage is a problem.

I remember back in the day when rotary cutters first came out , this is the way rulers were made. You needed a seperate ruler for each size strip you were going to cut.  Good idea though.

These are realy nice. But because of your legal stuff, I do not qualify for your winnings. Now I'm just wondering, and would like a response please, I have family living in the USA. is it at all possible for us to qualify if you can send the prizes to our family in the USA?

Thank you

@ Aliza - Your family member could enter, and if he/she won, he/she could opt to send you the prize. As we mention in our About Us section, we know it is a disappointment to some of our loyal visitors outside of the USA that out Giveaways are open only to USA visitors. However, to open our giveaways internationally is more than just a shipping issue. We would also have to understand complex contest laws for every country in the world. The legal fees to do that are far beyond our means. So instead, we focus on providing the best free sewing tutorials, tips and inspiration we can. We appreciate your support and understanding.

Oh wow I had never heard of these and I think they would be great to have.  I often forget and move my ruler and end up with either a bigger strip or smaller one.  This seems so simple I am going to have to search to find all sizes and I am going to mail my quilting buddies that don't have internet about it.  Great idea.
