If you are a Gmail user, you may have noticed they recently rolled out a number of changes. One of these can affect how(if) you receive email updates and newsletters you have opted to receive.
If you don't take a couple minutes to change Gmail's new default settings, you could end up not getting the emails you look forward to... not only from your friends here at Sew4Home, but from others as well.
Even though you "opted in" to our mail list, the Gmail filtering system can still prevent our messages from landing in your primary in box. Their new "tab functionality" changes how your mail is delivered. Now, anything related to Social Media goes into the "Social" tab, and things that come from newsletters land in "Promotions."
Clear as mud, right? Don't ask us to answer "why" they did this; they probably thought they were being helpful.
You can certainly leave things as-is, and just try to remember to check for mail in these other tabs. But, if you're like me... that's not going to happen.
So, it's easy to change the default, and there are two options.
Option One: Select specific emails you want to land in your Primary box
Open your Gmail mail account and click the Promotions tab.
Find a Sew4Home (or other) email.
Drag and drop this email onto the Primary tab. Click "yes" to the pop-up question: "Do this for all future messages from Sew4Home/Other?" This says to Gmail, "This is an email I want to continue to receive in my main box... leave it alone." All Future messages from us (or whomever else you choose) should be delivered directly to your primary inbox.
Option Two: Turn off the whole filtering shebang
If you'd prefer Gmail not filter any of your mail messages, you can disable it all.
Again, open your Gmail mail account.
Click the little X at the top right of your inbox, next to the tabs.
A box will pop up. In that box, UNcheck both the "Social" and the "Promotions" boxes. Then click save. This will get rid of all the other tabs.
Thanks for taking action to ensure we can stay connected!
