Our friends at Fat Quarter Shop (FQS) have done it again; they've blended fast, easy and cute-as-can-be! This time the result is a brand new series of quilts designed to make great use of pre-cut bundles. The projects are quick to create, but look like you slaved for weeks to produce the intricate patchwork. Thanks, Kimberly and Crew, for making us all look so good using so little time. The first quilt in the Shortcut Quilts series is called Jelly Roll Jam, which features... you guessed it, the 2½" x 44" strips of a standard Jelly Roll.
We're very excited to share this new Series with you because it's perfect for those of you brand new to quilting, but is just as fun for experienced quilters who are looking for a fast and easy quilt to play with in between more complex projects.
Jelly Roll Jam is a baby size quilt and uses just half of a standard 40 piece Moda Jelly Roll. You could make two - one to keep and one as a gift! The quilt pattern is available as a free download from the FQS site.
To help make the process just a little bit simpler, FQS owner, Kimberly Jolly recorded a video tutorial. In less than 20 minutes, Kimberly walks you step-by-step through the entire Jelly Roll Jam piecing process. I learned a few dandy tricks myself about pressing and cutting!
The sample quilt in the video uses the charming Scrumptious collection by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics, which is just one of huge selection of Jelly Rolls and other bundles available at FQS. They really have one of the best pre-cuts selections online.
A Jelly Roll Jam quilt would make a wonderful holiday gift, and it's so easy, you'll have time to make several, customizing each with a special Jelly Roll theme.
For more about pre-cuts, check out the great summary FQS did for us awhile back.
And, if you are new to quilting, we recently put together a five-part series on Quilting Basics, which has gotten rave reviews from visitors. Start with Part 1, and go from there.
