I don't have heirlooms in my family but I do have a black and white polka dot dress my father bought me when I was little and before we came to the united states. I still have it and plan on passing it to my daughter when she fits into it in his rememberance.

My mother and her father were very close. He was definitely one of the best men I knew (right along side my own father of course). He collected different things such as writing pens from all 50 states and wherever he would travel. She sorted through all his pens and framed them for him to hang up on his walls. A few years ago, we lost my grandfather and went sorting through his belongings. We began to laugh because the man had soooooo many ties! They were hilarious to look through because he had short ones, long ones, tie-dyed, skinny, fat, business, and just plain crazy looking ones! My mom began to quilt after both her parents passed and she put together a quilt using all his ties. What a wonderful treasure we know have to help us keep this great man close to our hearts!! For sure a blessing to us all for knowing him!

My favorite heirloom to be is a quilt I made with all the old blue jeans and corduroy trousers from the family. It is very heavy and warm. It shows me how far I have come in my quilting.

My favorite Family Heirloom is a quilt that my Aunt finished for me when she was 92 years old. I have had it for about 40 years and it's still beautiful. It is totally done by hand and is composed of approximately 4000 prairie points in a variety of colors set in rolls across the with of the quilt. This must have been her stash reducer quilt. I am learning to quilt and have showed it to several quilt teachers and they have all said that they have never seen a quilt like it before.

This Quilt will remain a cherished family heirloom being passed down to my granddaughters.

My heirloom is a quilt sampler made by my paternal great-grand mother when she was only eight years old. My grandmother had it framed for me on my 18th birthday. It holds a place of honor on the wall of every place I've lived since then.

A favorite family heirloom of my mom's would be a cross stitched tablecloth that my grandmother made. My mom proudly displayed it at family gatherings and now that honour is mine!

My favorite heirloom is the blouse that my Mother made for her wedding. My parents married during the Great Depression so there was no big wedding. They went to the Justice of the Peace and she wore a beautiful lawn blouse with tiny flowers made on a treadle machine. It is very beautiful and meaningful to me. She never made the buttonholes, just pinned the front with tiny safety pins. This makes me laugh because I didn't know this for many years yet she always kept after me to finish each of my projects!!

My favorite is my Christmas stocking. My mom,who is now a very young 87 yr old was not crafty. But she made each of her kids a red and white wool felt stocking with our names on them. She hand sewed fun beads onto them also. 59yrs later I still hang mine along with the ones I made for my family using mine as a pattern,

My favorite fabric heirloom is the Christmas stocking my late grandmother made for me when I was born. She made a beautiful piece of smocking with Christmas trees embroidered on it. The smocking turned out huge, but she had worked so hard, she didn't want to trim any of it, so she made a huge red velvet stocking to go with it. My mother always had a hard time filling this giant, beautiful stocking. Such a lovely reminder of a lovely woman.

Both my mother and mother-in-law made many things for our family worth treasuring, but oddly enough, the most sentimental to my daughters was the flat kid-size sheets my mom made which they used for naps. Now one of my daughters has a daughter of her own and she was so tickled to hand down her dinosaur sheet for her use.

Wow can I see so many different things made from these wonderful fabrics, like a few patterns of quilts I love, then there is that wonderful little girl in my life that would so love a dress made out of one of those fabulous fabrics, then how about some tablescapes that could be done, and how how my bath could have have a makeover with some of those wonderful works of art... Oh WOW WEE... Oh I sure would love to win. Hope I do, we can always have hope.

My grandmother converted tea towels to loop over handles and snap. I have one of them but my teen boys tore it off the handle - damaging it severely. I will repair it but now plan on making more for myself and also several for my daughter's household.
Thank you for the entry!

I come from a long line of sewers but unfortunately have very few family heirlooms, with the exception of baby blankets made by my grandmother for my two older sons. My youngest son was born after she had passed away. My contributions most recently are matching pajamas for my two sisters-in-law and their daughters and matching lounge pants for my husband, sons and grandson for Christmas. Most of these are whipped up in the last 48 hours before Christmas Eve! Thinking I should manage my sewing time a little better!

My son was baptized in the same gown as his father and grandfather (60 years old). It was very beautiful, but we had to baptize my son very quickly because he was out growing it at 6 weeks. I guess we make them bigger these days. amandawithpcos at gmail dot com

My favorite fabric heirloom is a string-pieced orange peel quilt made by my maternal grandmother. It is hand-pieced and hand-quilted. She died when I was just a toddler. Since I am now a quilter, I truly appreciate this work of "heart". I am working on an heirloom series. I'm using my late brother's shirts to make quilts for his wife, daughter, and 2 grands. The grands' quilts are already in use. The other 2 will be finished this winter. They aren't in the same class as my inherited piece, but hopefully will be a comfort.

I, unfortunately have no fabric heirlooms of any kind. I think I was probably the first in my family to use a sewing machine for anything other than mending. My mother did knit clothes for my Barbie doll way back when Barbie was new. She planted the seeds for an appreciation of all things hand made.

I have a beautiful tablecloth that my grandma gave to me. Unfortunately, a lit candle fell over and the hot wax spilled on the cream cloth. I did not properly remove the wax (I will blame it on youth!), so the tablecloth sat in storage for years. I have been embroidering flowers over the damaged/stained area so we can use the heirloom again.

My favorite heirlooms are the quilts my grandma made me. She put so much love in each one of them. I am the only one in my family that caught the crafting bug, so I now make quilts for next generation that is coming along.

My fabric heirlooms include a double wedding ring quilt made by my grandmother - when we were little, we ran our little cars over the "roads" formed by the rings. Also, fabric scraps from my silk and lace wedding dress, made for me by my talented sister. My aunt made a frame from the scraps and framed our wedding invitation with it.

My heirloom is a navity scean that was left to me, being the first grandchild, by my grandmother. The figures were hand carved, hand painted with jointed limbs. My grandmother made the clothing by hand for each of the figures. They are beautiful!!

My mom passed a small patchwork quilt that is made of scraps from polyester double knit dresses of my grandmothers. I love the memories of my grandmother that it brings back. My son simply loves the quilt even though he never met my grandmother.

My family heirlooms are a thread that connect four generations of creative women. From my grandmother's embroidered hankies, to the treasured quilts of my mother, to my award winning costumes, to the amigurami my niece crochets, we find our joy in the needle arts. My favorite heirloom is the knowledge I pass on nearly every day as a trained sewing instructor.

I got a quilt from my mother-in-law was passed away in Oct. and she had given each of her daughters a quilt made by her mother. Since she only had boys we were her daughters some more that others. We all loved her it is so hard not to have her here this year. So several years ago when my grandmother died she had started a quilt and never finished, someday I would like to have the pieces and material back to finish.

My favorite family heirloom is the stemware that my mother received as a wedding gift. It is such delicate crystal and with an aurora borealis finish. There are two sets - champagne flutes and coupes. What's cute is that there are only five of each -- she admits to having broken one of each at the wedding reception. : ) We get them out a few times each year and enjoy pretending that we're at a fancy dinner party.

My husband was raised by his grandparents and tells many wonderful stories of watching the ladies from church, chatting away in German, and working on quilts during bees at various homes. Before she passed away, Grandma Anna gave him her flower garden quilt, all hand pieced and quilted. It carries so many warm and loving memories! Grandma Anna's quilt is our fabric heirloom treasure.
