Our final Artist Trio Series with Free Spirit Fabrics , this one featuring Joel Dewberry, goes out with a BANG today with the most fabric cuts EVER in a Great Giveaway. This Artist Trio was short, running just over the past four days, but oh-so sweet! Joel Dewberry has always been one of S4H's favorite fabric designers. We loved getting to know him during our interview and working with his latest Heirloom collection for our Thanksgiving Traditions projects. Our friends at Free Spirit sent a super generous selection of gorgeous Heirloom fabric for one lucky Sew4Home fan: TWENTY-NINE one yard cuts of the quilting cottons, TWELVE one-yard cuts of the amazing laminates, and Joel's FIVE Eclectic Modern sewing patterns. Wowee Zowee, Batman... this is a super prize. To enter, simply leave a short comment below about a fabric heirloom someone made and passed down to you or one you are creating now to become a favorite tradition.

Here at S4H, we have loved every Joel Dewberry collection that has come down the pike. His talent for mixing traditional and contemporary motifs, then infusing those concoctions with just the right color combinations, is spot-on time after time. If you haven't already read our interview with Joel, take a look; you'll enjoy learning about his design perspective. My grandmother is a quilter and has quilts that have been in our family since the revolutionary war. The quilts have been passed down through the generations. It is amazing to think of the stories each one carries.

The fabrics of today are amazingly bright and beautiful. I would love to create with these beauties.

I have two favorites: I have a doll my adopted grandmother made for my sisters and myself and then one my mom made for me. They are both in my daughter's room now. And then I have a colonial girl quilt my mom made for me when I went to college and one she made for my daughter with the same pattern using fabric scraps from the dresses I had made for my daughter. I would love tis fabric stash!!! My daughter's favorite color is purple.

I have 2 special fabric heirlooms the first one is a baby quilt that my mother-in-law and 2 of my husbands aunts emroidered the blcoks for for my oldest daughter, she is now almost 32 years old and I am saving it for a future grandchild! Also have a quilt that my mother in law hand sewed the blocks and hand quilted that she started when my husband, now 60 was a baby, I hand sewed the binding and also helped her finish the last bit of quilting on it when we first got married, I guess my kids can fight over it someday! I divied up my mothers quilts between my children this summer when we cleaned out my parents home, very bittersweet event, but bearable knowing the items they have are loved by them now. I recently made a cross stitched prayer wall hanging that I designed for our oldest daughter to give to her at her commissioning ceremony when she became an officer in the US Navy last month. I stitched it with thread from both of her grandmothers. I'm hoping that will become a family heirloom in her own family someday, now to work on something compareable for the other 2 kids! I love the fabric being given away, it is fantabulous!

My fabric heirloom was tiny and I mean teensy tiny doll clothes made by my mother's friend Gladys. She took some of my hand me down clothes (from cousins) and made several outfits for my Ginny doll. I must have been about 8. I'm sure from then on I thought Gladys could do anything!

My next door neighbor taught me to sew. Thanks to her, I have smocked and hand embroidered many dresses that will become heirlooms. More importantly, I have taught my girls to sew so they can now create their own beautiful heirlooms.

The last supper - this heirloom was made over 100 years ago and it is a 1.8m by 1.2m tapestry of the last supper by Da Vinci, and it took over 10 years to make as each stitch is less than 2mm in size, and over 150 different coloured threads were used. It was made by my great auntie, and it is absolutely stunning. I am so proud to have such talented ancestors and it spurns me on to create beautiful things.

I made my dad a quilt with pictures of our family past and present.
He just loves it. When he received it, he brought it over to his
brothers homes so he could share it with them. It now hangs in his
bedroom so he can see his family before he goes to sleep.

Thanks for a wonderful give away opportunity. My heirlooms aren't all that old but well loved none-the-less. My grandmother made me doll clothes for two Madame Alexander dolls -- one big and one little. She made velvet coats, dresses and bathing suits from fabric left overs from the Los Angeles garment district. I loved playing with all of my dolls and still have them carefully saved. I can't wait until my grand daughter is old enough to play with me.

My grandmother had passed before I was born; however, I have a few of her white lace and embroidered hankies. I have added a few more over the years and this year have decided that my modern daughters would really rather have something from my hands.
I am making two all white Christmas stockings for them to display and treasure.
Thank you for this opportunity,

My fabric heirloom is my Mother's baby Christening gown. It is absolutely incredible because my Grandmother hand stitched the entire gown.

I am also working on making my Grandchildren their own baby quilts which will hopefully become an heirloom they each will pass on to their own children's babies years from now.

FABULOUS giveaway. Thank you so much Joel Dewberry and Sew4Home.

No one in my family was a seamstress or quiltmaker - not my grandmas, nor my mom, or any aunts, cousins or sisters. I am the only one. However, when my grandma was a young woman she made one quilt (probably in early 1930's) - very simple, but beautiful, with many different fabrics. I have the quilt and display and use it everyday! jamievowell@yahoo.com
