FreeSpirit-Rowan 10&10 Series: Great Giveaway with 10 Winners!

Printer-friendly versionSend by emailPDF version

THIS GREAT GIVEAWAY CLOSED 02/28/13. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED.

Ten collections. Ten designers. And now... ten winners! Each time we do a Great Giveaway with our friends at Westminster Fibers, the makers of FreeSpirit and Rowan Fabrics, the prize packages seem to get bigger and better. For today's Great Giveaway, they provided two-yard cuts of every fabric we used over the past four weeks to create our one-dozen projects. Plus, we also got TWO 18-spool thread gift boxes courtesy of Coats & Clark. We cut each fabric in half to yield 98 one yard cuts. We then dug into our own stash for two additional yards to make it an even 100 one-yard cuts. So now... that's 10 collections, 10 designers, and 10 winners of 10 yards of fabric.

We'll draw 10 winners at random from all the valid comments posted on this article as well as the other articles within this 4-week series. Our first two drawn names will be our "first place" and "second place" winners; these two lucky ducks will each get one of the thread boxes along with a mystery grab bag of 10 yards of fabric. The remaining eight winners will each get just (Ha!!! JUST!!!!) the ten yards of fabric.

Remember, not all shops take delivery and/or display fabrics on the same schedule, so actual in-stock dates may vary. Also, you can always ask your favorite local independent fabric retailer to special order fabric for you. And, you can try Googling the fabric name along with the designer's name or the design house, for example: "Notting Hill" and/or "Joel Dewberry" and/or FreeSpirit Fabrics. Prints from earlier collections can sometimes be found on Etsy or eBay. If you love a fabric, get it while you can. Because, like fashionable apparel, popular fabrics come and go; at some point, even the most amazing fabrics are no longer in stores or online.

Anna Maria Horner is my favourite :). My goals for the year are to become more proficient with my quilt sewing, and to begin replacing my bought clothing with nicer quality pieces I have made, as a more responsible consumerism (in addition to continuing to shop resale...I do feel that is the mostresponsible method, but I also feel that handmade goods last longer and because they are made with love, become more cherished and that we tend to mend themrather than to discard them, because of this).  I would also like to mend items in my home using some of these fabrics.  Thank you for the chance to win.  Alainn.aingeal (at) gmail (dot) com

I like Jennifer Paganelli the best. Her colors are so bright, cheery and feminine! This year's project is to use the squares and strips I cut from last year's resolution of cutting up my scraps. I have finished one quilt already, have one in progress, and 3  more planned and laid out!

Jennifer Paganelli has such cheerful designs and her fabric line Happy Land has fun & pretty colours! I like her style and her sense of colour combos! My sewing resolution this year is to be bolder with my fabric selections and to try different techniques. I will be trying to work with the many new "bright" colours and whimsical fabric designs that are coming out this year to sew up some great projects for family and friends!

Love all these clutches!!!! I've bookmarked this porject!!!

My 2013 resolution is to sort out, proritize, actually use my stash and implement at least 3 of the projects from my to-do list!!! One quilt, One handbag/may be this clutch and one skirt (yes want to start with a simpler one)! I've bookmarked so many projects and have bought many books on quilts, handbags, dress making and home decor in 2012.

Picking one favorite designer is really hard.. I've collected fabric lines from Joel Dewberry, Ty Pennington, Jennifer Paganelli, Paula Prass, Sweetwater, Tanya Whelan and just love all other designers for their creativity!!!

Okay, if at all I've to pick one now, I think it is Joel Dewberry :)

I don't really have a favorite designer, but I do like Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry and Anna Marie Horner.

My mom had a sewing machine (along with many many other crafting tools) and I have finally decided that it is time for me to get back to the art.  Additionally, we are moving into a new house this year, so my 2013 resolution is to furnish my new house with beautiful sewing.  I am so glad that I found sew4home because it is exactly what I needed - I had started to get a bit lost on the internet with all the different articles and patterns of varying quality...

I also loved looking through the FreeSpirit and Rowan sites to get inspiration from their beautiful collections!  I think my favorite designer so far is Jenean Morrison with the Picnic Parade swatches.  They have such vibrant colors and patterns!

I am a fabric addict, and am seriously craving some of Jenean Morrison's In My Room and Joel Deberry's Notting Hill fabrics. I cannot pick one above the other as I love both designers fabrisc. My fingers are itching to get going on making some new home furnishing and children's clothes this year. I was drooling over the Joel Dewberry collection in Liberty yesterday, and got some very odd looks from security; they just don't understand the pull of great fabrics for addicts, lol. Both I and my bank manager would be very grateful I could get some of them for free. Thank you.

PS. Notice that my craving has gotten even worse since I saw your great giveaway, so much so that I commented twice by mistake; can't think straight for thinking about all that yummy FREE fabric. Lol

Wow, what a fab giveaway!!!  Since I was lucky enough to become a mother of twin girls in December, I would love to sew up the softie bunny and kitten published here at Sew4Home (once I get a couple of minutes to myself.....).  I think that the Notting Hill collection would be the perfect choice for the softies - I love Joel Dewberry!  As most crafters, I do have a long list of projects that I would like to get to.  On the top of the list right now are: redress my kitchen chairs, sew up a couple of basket liners for my new laundry baskets, and make cover for my sewing machine.  We'll see how much I get done... LOL

If I am one of the lucky winners, please contact me at jenny_hilding@hotmail.com.

I have to choose just one of the three Free Spirit designers whose work I adore?  That is so incredibly tough. To have to choose between Jenean Morrison, Jennifer Paganelli and Tula Pink is impossible because I love all three for different reasons. OK, if pushed it would have to be Jennifer because she has such a superb eye for colour. Then it would be Jenean for pattern and Tula for detail and whimsy.

Beautiful fabrics!  My resolution to complete my boomerang swap quilt!  I'd love to make at least 6 quilts this year.  I teach elementary school, so it's hard for me to get much work done during the school year, but come summer vacation, I'm basically locked in my sewing room!

I really don't like resolutions, unless they help me to achieve a goal that I need that extra push. My resolution is to find time for me and no guilt. If I buy some fabric and I get total enjoyment from just looking at it and feeling it, than good for me. I really don't care about anybody else's goals or accomplishments. I am happy for them and I will focus on what brings me contentment with my own creative endeavors in my own creative time frame!! YAY!!!  Tula Pink rocks!

This year's resolution is to create useful, eye-catching, whimsical, beautiful fabric items; sell them locally and on etsy. That's a big resolution for me, but something I have been contemplating for at least two years. I am on my way, working, experimenting, even failing, as I play and evolve in my choices of style, color, fabric.

My favorite designer in your list is Victoria and Albert Museum's Godwin by Rowan (love their yarns too!), tastefully shown in the table runner, napkins, and ties. Beautiful! Kaffe Fasset and Amy Butler are also awesome designers!
