Proving anyone can (and should) make their own home décor (and lots of other cool stuff) is our goal here at Sew4Home. If we've helped you catch the sewing bug - or inspired you with our projects and articles, then your New Year's task is simple: pass on your skill. Find two or three friends or relations who would benefit from knowing how to sew. If you're reading this, and you've never even sat down to turn on a sewing machine.... guess what? Every single one of us who sews – even the most expert seamstress – was once where you are today. Nobody is born knowing how to sew. (If you hear about a newborn making his or her own receiving blanket, please let us know.) Fortunately, there are really only two steps: 1) a desire to do it, and 2) doing it.
A friend of ours, who somehow found the time to write several books, gave me this piece of advice: 'Your life is like a jar and the things you want to accomplish are like rocks. The problem is you can only fit a limited number of rocks into your jar. So start by figuring out what's most important and put those biggest rocks in first. Then figure out what's next-most-important and fit these smaller rocks into the spaces between the big ones. Finally, pour in the 'sand'– the least important stuff, and it will find room in all the cracks between the important things.'
Whether teaching or learning... or just doing, make creativity a priority and it will reward you many times over. You just need to make it one of your big rocks.
Happy New Year from all of us at Sew4Home!

I started out sewig doll clothes on my mother's old Singer sewing machine. I was about 8. Then I decided to make my own clothes. When I was a teenager, I had more clothes than anyone else and all my friends thought we were rich. Little did they know! I stil make my own clothes, and home dec items, but doll clothes are still my first love.
I have been sewing since I was in high school, many years ago. I enjoy homemade gifts for the holidays. This year I made all my female cousins a zippered pouch for Christmas and put thier initials on the front. They loved them. I also made Monogrammed pillowe cases for all the kids in our family, well, those under 18. They also loved them. I am now in a position to teach sewing to others. Some thing I have enjoyed doing for years. So glad for this website and its great ideas and sewing tips to help newcomers. I wish more people would sew and share thier ideas.

Yesterday I was at the V.A. Hospital in Tucson. They liked the things that I have made for the babies of rthe new Mother Vets. I can't teach them but I can sew things for them. I have offered to teach others but no one seams interested. They like to watch me sew by hand, but ...... still looking. In the mean time...(back at the ranch) I have started on the redecorating of the ranch house. I used the table runner tutorial and made appliance covers for the laundry room, curtains, and pin bag. Today it's the ironing board cover. THANKS Sew4Home.
I am new to the sewing world. My first projects were rice filled scented microwave heat packs. I then moved on to making a dress for my granddaughter for Christmas (which came out really cute). It was then that i decided I needed my own sewing machine...so I got one for Christmas! I crochet and embroider, and now I sew...and I love it. Its stressful for me (because I am new and I'm teaching myself) but your website has inspired me to do great things. Please don't ever ever shut down your site. I have many projects that I want to create from your amazing instructions...the first being some beautiful curtains for my newly-renovated master bedroom. Should I be successful, I think I will then try making a duvet (though that might be biting off more than I can chew...we shall see!). It all seems a bit overwhelming, but your instructions appear to be written for dummies (like me) and so I think I can follow them! If my projects come out half as amazing as yours, then I will be extremely pleased with myself!!! I'm thrilled to death that I found your website...and all I can say is thank you. If your goal was to inspire people...then you have succeeded. Happy New Year to you!
When my Mom taught me to sew she opened up a whole new world to me. A chance to make things with my own 2 hands not only for myself but for others. I would gladly teach any of my friends or family how to sew. But the first lesson I think should be seam ripping! Because if you don't have the patience to pick out a mistake and get it right the next time around - sewing isn't for you!
A huge thank you to the S4H Family for adding to my inspiration everyday.
We have 12 grandkids & soon to be 4 great grandkids. I love giving them gifts that are useful & treasured. Our 3 oldest grandkids are siblings & married and need so much, so this year I'm going to gather things to make them their own sewing kit. With coupons & my list in my purse, I will be able to put together some nice gifts for them, wrapped in love of course! I still have my first sewing kit from my Grandma & great Aunt.....still remember the day I was given it & I always will! I have taught some of our grandkids to sew & always have things ready for their next visit & our adventures in my creative studio!!
Just today, my outdoorsman son and his lovely girlfriend asked me to teach them both how to sew. I am excited that they asked. Sew4Home has the right idea. So many people tell me they wish they knew how to sew. Happy New Year to all of you on this great site!
