One of the best reasons to sew – some people would say the best reason, is to take a break from life for an hour or two. For many of us, our sewing room is like a little retreat in our home. A few hours of creating with fabric and thread, and we can face the world again. It's wonderful. And if you've ever had the chance to go on an actual sewing retreat with a few friends, it's even better. Then.... there are the sewing retreats put on by our friends at The Makerie! More than just getting away and chatting while you sew, this is a chance to get the kind of encouragement and instruction that lead to amazing growth in your creativity and skills in just a few days. And it all happens in an absolutely beautiful environment.
We were introduced to The Makerie by our dear friend (and amazing quilter), Heather Jones. She is participating in the brand new Makerie Sewing Retreat, coming up April 18-21, 2013, especially for people who love sewing and creating with textiles.
The venue will be the Colorado Chautauqua retreat center near Boulder. Built in 1898, it's a gorgeous National Historic Landmark. You'll stay in beautifully renovated cottages nestled at the base of the breathtaking Flatiron Mountains.
It's worth the price just for the accommodations, but the best part will be what you learn and who will be teaching. The retreat is designed to inspire, encourage and nourish creativity through workshops taught by renowned experts from around the country.
The star-studded teacher team for the April Retreat includes many of our favorites:
It's rare to find instructors of this caliber all in one place. And just wait 'til you see the wonderful variety of offerings!
Over the retreat weekend you will be able to take four (4-hour) classes from these renowned teachers (16 hours of amazing instruction). The subjects vary from Creating Your Unique Color Story to Designing Your Own Clothes, but they all have the goal of nurturing each participant to reach her creative potential. See the entire class schedule here.
In addition to the creative workshops, you can also participate in other invigorating activities, such as wake-up yoga and hiking. Plus you'll get healthy, local, organic meals throughout the weekend to truly create a soul-filling experience.
As The Makerie founder, Ali DeJohn says, "This weekend creative retreat gives people the sacred time and space to make creativity a priority, which is often hard to carve out of our everyday lives."
If you're craving a weekend dedicated to creativity and making something with your own two hands, the Makerie Sewing Retreat this April just might be calling your name.
