From a jumbo bag to hold loads of knitting yarn to a tiny coin clutch for your pennies, whenever we do a bag, of any size or shape, it's always super popular. Carrying things in style is something we all love to do, and we have dozens and dozens of trendy totes and haute handbags. This simply had to be one of our fave categories. We recently added a Project Index to Sew4Home; check it out for all the options. We have listings for Handbags, Clutches & Coin Purses, Totes & Bags, Gift Bags, and you could even count Storage Baskets and Boxes. But first... our faves.
Two peas in a pod or apples and oranges? Visitors to Sew4Home often wonder what the people are like behind all the designs. Creative Director, Alicia Thommas and I (Senior Editor, Liz Johnson) are surprisingly similar in our likes and dislikes, but we don't march in lock step when choosing fabrics or colorways or even the design ideas themselves. We thought it would be fun to look at four of our biggest project categories and let you in on which ones are our favorites and why. The first category is aprons, something we're famous for here at Sew4Home.
Yep... it's been like the Twelve Days of Christmas here at Sew4Home. We happily shipped out one dozen prize packages to lucky S4H winners from across the country. Today, we officially announce and congratulate the ten winners of our Free Spirit-Rowan 10&10 Series, the winner of the Valentine's Day Layer Cake Giveaway, and the winner of the Elaine Schmidt book, Precut Patchwork Party. Our thanks to each and every one of you who entered, and our eternal gratitude to our friends and sponsors who make it all possible!

Just like a whirlwind wedding day, our Rustic Wedding Series with Fabric.com has finally wound down to a satisfying close. We hope you've enjoyed seeing all the inspirational projects and learning how to mix and match traditional wedding fabrics; like taffeta, silk, tulle and organza with unique fabrics not normally thought of as wedding choices; such as burlap, ticking, crushed velvet and muslin. To celebrate the series, one lucky S4H visitor will get an amazing gift: a $200 shopping spree at Fabric.com plus a copy of Elaine Schmidt's premier ribbon-work book; The Complete Photo Guide To Ribbon Crafts.
One of the best reasons to sew – some people would say the best reason, is to take a break from life for an hour or two. For many of us, our sewing room is like a little retreat in our home. A few hours of creating with fabric and thread, and we can face the world again. It's wonderful. And if you've ever had the chance to go on an actual sewing retreat with a few friends, it's even better. Then.... there are the sewing retreats put on by our friends at The Makerie! More than just getting away and chatting while you sew, this is a chance to get the kind of encouragement and instruction that lead to amazing growth in your creativity and skills in just a few days. And it all happens in an absolutely beautiful environment.
Four on the floor! At least we had to pick them all up off the floor when each realized she was the lucky winner of one of our recent Great Giveaways. We congratulate the two winners of our Sew4Home Gift 2 You drawings, the winner of the new It's Sew Emma Simply Fat Quarters book and the big winner of the Moda Winter Series pre-cuts. Our thanks to all of you who entered, and thanks plus a smooch on the cheek to all our friends and sponsors for making it possible!

Think precuts are only for quilting? Think again! In her new book for Creative Publishing International, creative dynamo, Elaine Schmidt shows how you can make home décor projects, wearables, accessories, gifts and more... all using precuts. Precut Patchwork Party starts with the basics of the shapes and sizes available, the best tools and supplies, and general techniques. Then, it rolls right in to 18 inspired projects. Today, Elaine and her publisher have allowed Sew4Home to feature one of those projects as a free download! Plus, they've provided a copy of the book for us to giveaway.

Ten collections. Ten designers. And now... ten winners! Each time we do a Great Giveaway with our friends at Westminster Fibers, the makers of FreeSpirit and Rowan Fabrics, the prize packages seem to get bigger and better. For today's Great Giveaway, they provided two-yard cuts of every fabric we used over the past four weeks to create our one-dozen projects. Plus, we also got TWO 18-spool thread gift boxes courtesy of Coats & Clark. We cut each fabric in half to yield 98 one yard cuts. We then dug into our own stash for two additional yards to make it an even 100 one-yard cuts. So now... that's 10 collections, 10 designers, and 10 winners of 10 yards of fabric.
We picked a dozen of our favorite Valentine projects... even better than a dozen red roses, we thought! There are the four projects we recently completed in the new Kissing Booth collection by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics, plus eight more classics we simply love to love. Beyond the new Kissing Booth collection, some of the other featured fabrics may no longer be available. But not to worry; we bring you the latest and greatest fabrics nearly every day here on Sew4Home! In fact, the current 10 Designers & 10 Collections series for FreeSpirit and Rowan has many wonderful choices that are in-stores now.
